Vineland Public Schools (VPS) is proud to announce that it has been awarded a $148,000 grant as part of the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) Dual Enrollment Pilot Grant initiative. VPS is one of only four school districts in the state selected to receive this competitive grant aimed at fostering innovation and increasing high student participation, particularly among underrepresented student groups.
The NJDOE Dual Enrollment Pilot Grant is a single-year initiative designed to provide local educational agencies (LEAs) with the resources needed to either initiate or expand dual enrollment programs. These programs enable high school students to take college-level courses, earning both high school and college credits simultaneously.
Vineland's proposal, which secured the $148,000 award, centers on establishing and expanding dual enrollment/dual credit courses at Vineland High School. The primary focus of the project is to ensure equitable access and participation for all eligible students, with a specific emphasis on economically disadvantaged students and multilingual learners. The project is part of a broader articulation agreement with Rowan University and Rowan College of South Jersey, allowing for seamless collaboration and implementation of the dual enrollment programs.
The granted funds will cover a range of essential expenses, including tuition, textbooks, transportation costs, and materials translation where needed. By addressing these financial barriers, Vineland Public Schools aims to make dual enrollment opportunities financially accessible for disadvantaged students, ultimately fostering a more inclusive educational environment.
Superintendent Alfonso Llano expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, "We are honored to receive this prestigious grant from the NJDOE, which will empower us to create meaningful opportunities for our students. Vineland Public Schools is committed to providing equitable access to quality education, and this grant will play a crucial role in expanding dual enrollment programs that benefit all students. We believe that this initiative will not only enhance the educational experience but also pave the way for students to potentially earn college credits, including up to and including an associate degree."
Vineland Public Schools looks forward to implementing this initiative with Rowan University and Rowan College of South Jersey, building on its commitment to excellence and inclusivity in education. The district is grateful for the support from the NJDOE and is eager to make a positive impact on the educational journeys of its students.
