Today, Vineland Public Schools joins the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools program, Verizon’s award-winning education initiative which addresses barriers to digital inclusion. In partnership with Digital Promise, the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools program works side-by-side with schools and districts to provide free technology devices, access to the internet and innovative STEM learning programs for today, so students can excel with technology tomorrow. Being part of Verizon Innovative Learning Schools will keep students connected, helping to facilitate learning wherever it’s taking place.
In addition to reliable access for every student and teacher, the partnership also equips each school with a technology coach and provides robust professional development support for teachers to effectively integrate technology into the classroom.
Edward Johnstone School, Sgt. Dominick Pilla Middle School, Thomas Wallace Middle School, and Veterans Memorial Middle School are among the 34 new schools joining the 12th cohort of Verizon Innovative Learning Schools, bringing the program’s reach to 660 middle and high schools nationwide.
Participating schools, which have been selected by Digital Promise, will receive free Chromebooks with accompanying Verizon data plans for every student and teacher beginning in fall 2025. In addition, each school will be assigned a full-time coach to train teachers in using the technology for powerful and engaging learning experiences.
“We are excited to partner with Verizon Innovative Learning Schools to provide our students with greater access to technology and learning opportunities,” said Superintendent Alfonso Q. Llano. “This partnership will empower our educators with new tools and training while ensuring that every student has the resources they need to succeed in today’s digital world. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this initiative will have on our schools and community.”
"At Verizon, we all know how critical access to technology and skills development is in today’s digital world,” said Mario Acosta-Velez, Region Senior Director, Verizon Local Engagement and Corporate Social Responsibility. "That’s why we are proud to bring Verizon Innovative Learning Schools to Vineland Public Schools and enable students to develop the skills, knowledge, and capabilities to be successful and become the next generation of STEM leaders.”
Verizon Innovative Learning is driving improvements in the classroom. In fact, 80 percent of teachers reported they felt more confident leveraging technology in teaching because of Verizon Innovative Learning Schools, and 80 percent said the program increased student engagement.*
