Mrs. DeJesus’ science classes at Johnstone Middle School completed a “Periodic Table of Turkeys” in celebration of Thanksgiving. Students were tasked with “disguising” their turkey with information and drawings about their assigned element. Great job Johnstone Jaguars!

Students in Mrs. Gaetano/Mrs. Uebelacker's 5th-grade class at Mennies Elementary School teamed up with students from Mrs. Leone's class to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches that were donated to The Vineland Soup Kitchen. Prior to making the sandwiches, the students participated in a Portrait of a Graduate competency lesson on empathy and what it would be like to put themselves in someone else's shoes-specifically someone who may be a little less fortunate. Students decided to forego having their own party festivities and instead chose to donate their time to make the sandwiches for the Soup Kitchen. The students learned a valuable lesson on empathy and expressed how they were truly grateful for so many things.

Students in Miss Bernard and Ms. McGill’s Kindergarten class at Mennies School had their own Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! They read the book Balloons over Broadway, learned how the balloons are made, and then made their own balloons! The class participated in a parade around the classroom! 🦃❤️

At Mennies School, one of Mrs. Benedetto's 3rd grade reading groups just finished a book, The Mystery of the Missing Book. It was a cute story about a student who is the new advice columnist for the 3rd grade newspaper. When she receives her first letter, she learns that someone saw who took Ms. Smith's book. It was fun for the reading group to write clues to solve the mystery. After the book was finished, the students wanted to make a newspaper and chose what topics they wanted to write about. They used an index card to write out their ideas. Mrs. Benedetto put all their writings into a Canva Newspaper for them and published it. They had a lot of fun!

Students in Mr. Greenfield's Lego Robotics classroom at Veterans Memorial Middle School are taking on an exciting challenge: design a robot that can travel the furthest distance with only 20 motor rotations!
The competition started with everyone building the same basic LEGO robot and programming it to the same limit—just 20 motor rotations. Most robots traveled around 5 feet, but that was only the beginning.
Over the next week, students got creative, modifying their robots to go farther with the only hint from their teacher: "Think geometrically." The first round of the competition took place on Friday, November 15, and Group 4 came out ahead with an incredible 30-foot distance!
The challenge wraps up on Wednesday, November 20, after two more days of tweaking and testing. We can’t wait to see what these young engineers come up with next!

The Mennies Guidance Dept and Administration would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the students, families, and staff who generously donated food for our Turkey Tango event. Thanks to your support, we were able to assist 28 families in need this year. In a time when food costs are rising, your kindness and willingness to give make a significant difference. We are truly grateful for your contributions and for helping make this effort a success. Thank you all!

Join us tonight for our annual pre-Thanksgiving football game pep rally! Come support the Fighting Clan as they look to win tomorrow vs. Millville at historic Gittone Stadium for the 153rd matchup between the rival teams. The pep rally will be held on the field behind Johnstone School and the VHS Tanner Building. Those attending should enter via the Johnstone School parking lot.
