The Cumberland Cape Atlantic YMCA is holding a Chipotle Fundraiser on Wednesday, May 8 from 4-8pm at the new Chipotle on Delsea Drive. The Vineland High School Academic Team participated in the 2024 Atlantic City High School Viking Bowl on April 17th. Competing among 14 teams vying for the top spots offered the VHS Academic Team an opportunity to showcase their academic knowledge as well as their teamwork and communication skills in a competitive environment. The Viking Bowl featured four rounds of academic trivia: Round 1 focused on questions about literature and the arts, Round 2 focused on math and science, Round 3 focused on history and current events, and Round 4 focused on sports and pop culture. Participating teams included Mainland Regional High School, Pinelands Regional High School, Egg Harbor Township High School, Absegami High School, Buena High School, Cedar Creek High School, and Atlantic City High School. All members of the VHS team who were able to attend the event were able to compete for at least one round in the fields aligned with their expertise.
The VHS Academic Team members who competed are: Seniors Christian Alvarado, Kendra Chestnut, Gabriella Cumba, Denise Gonzalez, Desunny Gonzalez, Casey Russoman, and Kaelin Zheng; Juniors Valentino Chanza, Iris Giocondo, Michaela Giuliani, Brandon Nieves, and Marley Smith, and Sophomores Christopher Gagnon, Juliana Panco, and Alexica Perez. Seniors Denise Gonzalez and Kaelin Zheng served as Captains for the event. The advisor for the Academic Team is Vanessa Rasmussen.
On April 16, Barse Elementary School librarian Tiffany Loveland hosted a roundtable on how to use the Destiny Library Catalog. Inspired by staff asking if certain books were in the library, Mrs. Loveland created a slideshow and gave detailed insights on how teachers can maximize Destiny for classroom use. Students will be shown how to look for books ahead of time using Destiny links posted in Google Classroom.
Tessa Messore shared her excitement at this new find. “It’s a good tool to allow students to independently explore different types of books and subjects that interest them,” she said.
Attendees walked away with light refreshments, book prizes, and a valuable resource.
The 2nd grade team at Petway celebrated National Exercise Day by having celebrity fitness guru @nateoffer lead a energy packed Zumba class. The students had a great workout and an even better time! The teachers even joined in the fun! Mr. Nate went above and beyond to make this an amazing day! He even wrote a song called, "The Pocket Man" for one of the students in Mrs. Armstrong and Mrs. Neri's classroom! The exercise continued outside, where the patriots did squats, lunges and toe touches with a buddy! Students learned about keeping their body active and how it correlates to helping keep their mind healthy.

Students at Mennies Elementary School had their final watch party of “The Very Cranky Bear.” The kids received a VIP pass to watch the premiere, walked the red carpet, enjoyed snacks and juice, and had an awards ceremony. When then revived their award, they gave thanks to friends, family, and teachers who have helped them.

Ms. Tarsatan's class at Mennies Elementary School recently had a guest reader, Mr. Jason. Mr. Jason was a Mennies student when he was little. He actually had Mrs. Freese as his kindergarten teacher! Our class invited Mrs. Wheaton’s class to join us for the reading of Since We’re Friends. The students decorated their own puzzle pieces. We put all of the pieces together to demonstrate that we are all different, but when we work together, we can create something beautiful!
Mrs. Schiavone’s “Be The Change" club at Wallace Middle School gathered supplies donated by staff and students to create care packages for our troops overseas. Mr. Marquis Strickland, a teacher at Wallace, is currently deployed and has provided addresses for a few platoons stationed near him. These items include handwritten cards, snacks, personal hygiene items, etc. Be The Change is working to make a difference in our community and other communities, one kind act at a time.
On Sunday, April 14th, the Vineland Public School's 5K for Autism Awareness was held at Sgt. Dominick Pilla Middle School. Over 200 people participated in the 5K run and 1-mile family fun walk. All proceeds will benefit our local community organizations: Pilla Project Unity, Educators 4 Autism, and Project Lifesaver.

On Monday, April 15, Mennies Elementary School hosted the Omegaman & Friends Assembly.
This assembly aimed to inspire our students to BE A H.E.R.O. and address key issues
such as:
Bullying and peer pressure
Positive choices and dream making
Respect for authority and violence prevention
Self-esteem and academic excellence
This was a great addition to our school’s commitment to creating a positive and safe learning environment for our students. Omegaman showcased his strength by ripping a book in half, bending steel, and breaking a bat over his knee, all of which were tied to important character-building messages.
On April 17th, students in Ms. Chalow's Anatomy & Physiology class and Ms. Marchesano's AP Biology classes skyped with a scientist. The Skype was arranged by Mrs. Fiori, Tanner Building Media Center Specialist. The students Skyped with Ankit Nischit Shroff, a Cell/Developmental Biologist with a background in cells, DNA, protein, fats, and microbes. He is currently working on research on how cells metabolize fats. He explained what his daily routine as a research scientist entails and explained how the lab works. The students answered questions about DNA since they are studying that topic in class. Many students were very interested to learn what working in a research laboratory was like.

Students and staff from Dallago East Preschool had a ribbon-cutting event to celebrate the opening of their new play structure! The process took several weeks, and students were often seen staring over the yellow tape, anticipating opening day. Monday was the day! After cutting the ribbon, students ran to the structure to bounce, climb and slide. As you can see from their smiles, it was a great day in preschool!
On Monday, April 15th, members of the Wallace Safety Patrol and NJHS attended Bubble Day at Dane Barse School. The students helped with the event by applying tattoos, helping students with crafts, and guiding students through the importance of having a sensory room for students with autism. Some of the students were able to share their own experiences with the children at Barse as well. Everyone had a great time and we are so proud of the members volunteering their time to help students at Barse. We have all enjoyed taking part in various activities this year.

Mayor Fanucci visited Ms. Disanti’s 6th and 7th grade Social Studies classes at Johnston School on April 12 to discuss civics and citizenship in Vineland. During the visit, 7th-grade student Anthony Oquendo was awarded the most outstanding reader in the Phanatic About Reading Program and received Phillies tickets for his entire family.
