Rossi Elementary School kicked off its year of rewarding students for WISE! Students were honored on Tuesday for Responsibility. It was so exciting to hand out the first of the BLUE WISE shirts to all of the students! Mrs. Valerie Detetta and her daughter Valentina were our superheroes this month and introduced the trait of Respect. Mrs. Detetta and Valentina were so passionate and relayed the message that Respect should be shown to everyone regardless of their differences. They truly made an impact on all the students and staff!

The first meeting of the Bilingual Advisory Committee will be held on Wednesday, October 18, at 6 p.m. at Sabater Elementary School. The first meeting will cover the laws and rights of bilingual/ESL students, preparing for parent-teacher conferences, the Genesis Parent Portal, and homework studying with your child. The event is free and a light dinner will be served. Babysitting will also be provided. Please see the attached flyers for more information.

On Friday, Sept. 29th, students at Rossi Elementary School celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month held by Champions, the district's before and after school program. Staff taught students about Hispanic culture and music, played games, and ate yummy Hispanic food. Our goal is for our children to be culturally and educationally enriched. They had a blast while learning!

Sonia Rivera, World Language Teacher, and Meghan Greenfield, 7th Grade Math Teacher at Johnstone School, collaborated to create Equivalent Ratio posters with their 7th-grade classes. Ms. Rivera started students off with a ratio written in Spanish that they had to convert into numerical form. Students then had to write an equivalent ratio and translate it into Spanish on their own. Students had to show mathematically how they got their equivalent ratio as well. This ties ratio and proportions math standards in both 6th and 7th grade to learning numbers 1 to 1000 in the World Language standards. The students were then able to decorate their posters for display in the hallways of the school.

D'Ippolito Elementary School kicked off its Character Education Program, BRAVO - Be Respectful And Value Others, with a Big "Ye-Haw" for Responsibility! Students were allowed to come to school dressed in their best Western Wear to show that they are Responsible and work as a team! We also celebrated our students who were honored for representing Responsibility for their classroom. Those students were awarded with some free time to do a craft and have a snack, plus a certificate from us and Texas Roadhouse. Yee-haw!

Some of the RISE (Reaching Independence through Structured Learning) Students have been getting out into the work environment already this school year! The students have been working at the Salvation Army Corps since September 18th. At the Salvation Army, students help to organize the food distribution, work with customers, and help to keep the work area neat and clean. Last week, another pair of students started working at Central Kitchen. At Central Kitchen, the students have worked in an assembly line to help prepare 3,500 breakfast bags that go out to the district students daily, as well as helped to make the cookies that all of our students enjoy in the cafeterias!
We thank our Work Based Learning Experience Agencies, The Salvation Army and Sodexo for continuing to help our students learn and grow as they make the transition from school to work!
If you have any questions or would like further information on the RISE program, please contact Stacy Zentz at szentz@vineland.org or 856-794-6800 ext 2623.

Mrs. Meneghetti's kindergarten class at Petway Elementary School started the month of October with a fun Fall counting activity! Students were given a "pumpkin patch" consisting of Cheerios and autumn candy corn mix. Students chose numbers from 1-10 and counted out that number from their bowl by using one-to-one correspondence, and then modeled that number in the ten frame. Pumpkin patch math was a great way to start a new week in kindergarten!

Congratulations to the Vineland High School September Dancers of The Month: Amya Day, Alanah Medina, and Seliyah Pierce! These dancers come to class each day prepared with positive attitudes and always eager to learn. They work hard and have been putting in countless rehearsal hours as we prepare for our Pep Rally performance which is coming up soon!

Congratulations to the VHS Marching Clan on placing 3rd in the Cavalcade of Bands at the West Chester East Competition this past Saturday! The band will next compete this Saturday, weather permitting, in Millville at the NJMBDA competition. Best of luck!

Board of Education member Mrs. Makema Douglas, pictured here with Assistant Principal Mr. Jorge García, stopped by Gloria Sabater Elementary School to visit and show her support. Thank you, Mrs. Douglas!

Rossi Elementary School's September Service Project was a HUGE success! South Jersey Animal Shelter received many physical and cash donations. Currently, the shelter is in a critical red zone. Rossi's donation drive came just in time to help them in a time of extreme need. Thank you for all your support. Rossi Owls are awesome!

Students in room C15 at Rossi Elementary School made the earth out of balloons! The students listed all of the continents, the equator, the hemispheres, and the prime meridian! Room C15 rocks!

Students in Mrs. Evans's 7th grade classes at Wallace Middle School investigated changes in density due to the heating and cooling of gases. Students used a convection box to observe what happens to the air (smoke) when part of the box is heated and there is cooler air on the other side.

We'll be streaming the Vineland-Washington Twp. football game live at 6pm from historic Gittone Stadium. We will also be honoring our senior football players, band members, and cheerleaders! Come out to support the team or watch here: https://bit.ly/3PF84F4
Go Fighting Clan! 🐔

The 4th-grade students in Mrs. Bond's Language Arts class at Petway Elementary School participated in Flashlight Friday. They selected books at their independent reading level from the classroom library. The students worked to build their stamina with independent reading. The students were able to choose a cozy spot around the room and read silently for 15 minutes.

On September 15th, Winslow students and staff celebrated Dot Day, organized by Winslow Art Teacher, Mrs. Rehm. Each student completed their own color experiment with paint sticks by starting with a dot. They made dashes and dabs of color around the dots, just like the famous Artist Alma Thomas. Each class also collaborated on a larger-scale painting. The students voted on the center color and then took turns adding rings of color, and the entire paper was full. Students and staff also dressed up in their best dot attire!
