Rossi Elementary students Lindsay Trowsdale and Mia Upshaw created their own service project through the Rossi WISE Student Ambassadors. Mia, (President) and Lindsay (Vice President) made bracelets in their free time and then sold them to friends and family. They raised $60! They then asked the Student Ambassadors to donate items for animals at the SPCA. Mia and Lindsay just recently donated all of the items along with their raised money to SPCA. This is what this program is all about! These girls are amazing individuals who wanted to give back to the community. Way to go, girls!

Petway School is adding something special to its playgrounds. Mrs. Dorsey and her Speech students put two communication boards on the playgrounds so that all students can talk without their voices. Mrs. Holt, Mrs. Snodgrass, and Mrs. Diorio's classes can use the communication board to talk to other students using pictures. This is a great way for all students to express their needs without words.
Petway School is proud to be a Total Communication school. We communicate with each other using words, ASL, Picture (PECs) Boards, electronic devices, and even a little creative dance.

Tiny Tots Preschool teamed up with Mennies Elementary School this week! Our future kindergarteners were able to visit Mennies School to get a glimpse of their very near future. The trip consisted of several exciting things! Tiny Tots students could visit kindergarten classrooms, the library, the cafeteria, the gym, and other rooms. It was an exciting experience that has our soon-to-be kindergartners another step closer to preparation for big kid school.
Thank you Mennies!

Mennies loved having Tiny Tots preschool visit this week. Students got to tour the school, visit the kindergarten classrooms, and meet Cole the Deaf Dog! We are super excited to welcome our new kindergarten students next school year!

On Tuesday, May 14th, the Sabater Safety Patrol visited the South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter. While there, students were able to read to the cats and dogs in the facility. Judging from all the tail-wagging, gentle purrs, and "This is the best day ever!" comments, the dogs, cats, and students all had a paw-some time!

In preparation for the NJSLA State Testing, Mennies students walked into the school last week to supportive messages written on the sidewalk by Mrs. Gannon's art students. Next, students received a surprise gift with the "You Know It, Now Show It" testing theme such as a bracelet, pencil, or bookmark. Finally, Mennies staff held a pep rally to get motivated for the test. Mr. Hannah & Cole, Mrs. Weir, and Mrs. Seda gave test prep strategies and calming tools. Mrs. Lovisone inspired students to do their best and "Show What They Know." Finally, Cole led students through the hallways, where they were encouraged by signs and posters made by the Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders at Mennies.

Mrs. Moyer's third-grade students at Mennies led a service learning project where they collected and donated their old preschool books to our Vineland Preschool students. Mrs. Moyer, Mrs. Staffieri, and Mrs. Weir teamed up to teach them about the steps of a service learning project. They learned about the planning and preparation phases and went through the steps of implementation and reflection. The students were excited to give back and help throughout each step of the process.

Vineland Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Dr. Nathan Frey visited his alma mater, Marie D. Durand Elementary School, to create a pinch pot just like he did when he attended in 1979. He joined a second-grade art class and followed Mrs. Lampropoulos’ step-by-step instructions and clay techniques, just like the students. Dr. Frey also discussed how art and science are connected, as students learned where clay is harvested and how it is processed to make pottery. At the end of the lesson, students had the opportunity to ask Dr. Frey questions about his experience at Durand, specifically in the art room. Mrs. Lampropoulos and Durand's students loved his visit and look forward to him coming back to glaze his pot!
