Mrs. McManus & Ms. Viso's classes at Durand Elementary School had a very special visitor this week. Therapy dog Enzo and his handler (and Durand alumni), Mrs. Lisa Monteleone-Haught, visited both classrooms on Tuesday afternoon. The students discussed what it meant to be a therapy dog and why Enzo was a good candidate to help those in need. Afterward, students were able to read stories to Enzo and enjoyed giving him lots of pets and belly rubs, which, by the looks of it, is Enzo's favorite part of his job! Enzo is certified through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs and is also certified as an AKC Good Citizen. It's always a great day when dogs visit our school!

The Guidance Department, along with many student volunteers, will create food baskets for 12 of our most needy families. Mennies students brought in one item each to add to the collection. We were so excited about the citizenship and generosity of our students and their families.
Students in Miss Welden and Ms. Franco's ELA classes at Pilla Middle School began their unit on Sustainability this week. Students learned the importance of being mindful of resources so future generations will be prosperous and experience ecological balance. As an anticipatory activity, the students worked in small groups to prepare soil, plant chia seeds, and provide water and sunlight so their class dinosaur, Frankie, will produce herbs to be used as renewable resources.

After reading "The Great Puppy Invasion" in their reading books, students came up with the idea of collecting donations for the SPCA in Vineland to show how they can be good citizens and give back to the community. No matter how young you are, you can make a difference!
Students in Ms. Gancarz and Mrs. Nees' class at Mennies Elementary School took math to the next level with Capture the Flag: Math Edition! Teams tackled challenging three-digit by two-digit multiplication problems, earning the chance to pick a mystery flag color after solving each one.
In the end, the big reveal showed how much each flag color was worth, and we totaled up the points to crown the winning team! 🏆The energy was high, the learning was fun, and the teamwork was amazing.

The third-grade students in Ms. Giblin and Miss Malench’s class at Durand Elementary School have been working very diligently to learn their multiplication facts. They have studied both the commutative and associative properties of multiplication. Last week, they worked on breaking apart arrays with the distributive property of multiplication. In understanding this property, they have been working with creating arrays, breaking them into smaller pieces, and putting them back together. In class they have practiced in a whole group, small groups, and partner work. Today was a very exciting day, as they were able to show off their newly learned skills. They were able to dress up like doctors from head to toe to perform “surgery” on the arrays as Dr. Distributive. The students enjoyed being able to play the role of doctor. Several of the students said that they wanted to be a real doctor when they get older.
Students in Mrs. Capelli's kindergarten class at Sabater are learning to say their numbers in English. On Friday, in Ms. Markman's ESL class, they formed the numbers with pipe cleaners and matched numbers and English number words with mini puzzles.

The author not only dedicated the book to VHS but also signed it. Brush, brush, brush those teeth! Thank you to Pediatric Dental who visited Little Lamb Preschool! Students enjoyed a dental presentation about how to take care of teeth by brushing and flossing. Students were able to come up and practice brushing to a fun song and poem. Students also got to practice pretending to be “teeth” that were flossed. They also were able to see a visual of what happens when too much sugar sticks to your teeth. Each student & staff member received a free toothbrush and information to take home.
At last night’s Board of Education meeting, member Rob Buono presented a remarkable piece of Vineland history—a game-used football from the 1934 Vineland-Millville Thanksgiving Day game—to the Vineland High School Historical Committee. The football, generously donated by Amanda and Joe Tolotti, was recovered from the home of local artist Margaret Ricci, sister of 1934 team captain Bud Pagliughi. Accepting the football were committee members, including senior class president Michaela Giuliani, former principal Dr. Tom McCann, and teacher and committee advisor Chris Mohan. This year marks the 153rd year of the Vineland-Millville Thanksgiving game, and we hope you can join us at Gittone Stadium on November 28 for a 10:30 a.m. kickoff.
At last night’s Board of Education meeting, Athletic Director Sylvester Cifaloglio presented an overview of the fall athletic season. Each fall sports coach shared highlights from their team’s season, recognizing the contributions of their senior athletes. The Board took this opportunity to honor these seniors, acknowledging their hard work, commitment, and leadership throughout the season. It was a fitting way to celebrate the accomplishments of our student-athletes and the dedication of our coaching staff!
Thank you to members of the Sgt. Pilla and Veterans Memorial Middle School Safety Patrols for leading the flag salute at the November 13 Board of Education Meeting! Great job! 🇺🇸
