Don't forget - this Saturday is the annual Vineland Safety Patrol Breakfast! Please see the attached flyer for more information.
Petway’s safety patrol, led by Mrs. Brady, along with Mrs. Meneghetti’s and Mr. Martini’s kindergarten class practiced one of Petway’s character traits, teamwork, this week. Students collaborated and worked on a fall craft together. The safety patrol members demonstrated leadership skills by helping the kindergarten students with their pumpkin ornaments while the kindergarten students strengthened their fine motor skills. It was a great afternoon full of fall fun, new friendships being made, and celebrating teamwork!
The fourth grade students in Miss Smith and Mrs. Scarpa's classes at Petway Elementary School have been learning about energy in science. Petway fourth graders have been fortunate to have the experience of departmentalizing this year. Because of this, students have been able to dig deeper into their subjects and it is truly an amazing experience! After spending several days exploring the concepts, students were tasked with designing their own solar oven with materials ranging from cardboard boxes, plastic wrap, construction paper, and aluminum foil. Over the span of several days, students designed, tested, and adjusted their ovens. Students demonstrated multidisciplinary content knowledge to test the temperatures of their ovens and recorded the rise of temperature over the span of 20 minutes prior to finally enjoying the fruits of their labor by using their solar ovens to make delicious s'mores! Fourth grade was excited to demonstrate the success of the ovens to special guest, Mr. Nate Frey who was able to join in the fun! Some of their ovens reached temperatures of over 130 degrees! Science is yummy!
During our Mennies Marvelous Monday assembly, students were awarded character badges for showing Respect throughout October! Each grade also selected one standout student who demonstrated our Portrait of a Graduate competency, Communication. We’re so proud of these role models!
To top it off, our staff recognized Ms. Bautista as our Staff Member of the Month and honored Mrs. Leone as our Positive Potato of the Month! 🥔✨
We LOVE celebrating our incredible students and staff at Mennies!
On Friday, October 25, Durand students and their families enjoyed a night of fun at the school’s 16th Annual Fall Festival. With an estimated 600+ in attendance, the two-hour event was a Fa-BOO-lous time for all!!
The event was held throughout the school and also outside on school grounds. Guests could make sand art in the cafeteria, decorate pumpkins, and get balloon animals. Of course, they could also purchase yummy snacks like funnel cake, cotton candy, and popcorn, to name a few! Hallways were filled with carnival games and some specialty rooms like Madame Boo Shay’s Fortune Telling, Face Painting, and the extremely popular Haunted Room.
Although costumes were not necessary, many students could be seen dressed up and out of their school uniforms for this special evening. We can’t forget the opportunity to throw a bowl of pudding at principal, Mr. Greco. With stacks of tickets in hand, students lined up to take their shot. Outside, students and their families could pick a pumpkin in the patch, bounce away in the bounce house, take a trip on the hayride, or stroll through the trunk-or-treat lane.
From planning to cleaning up, this event would not have been possible without the help of the Durand Family, including our event organizer, Mrs. Pepe. Durand faculty and staff donated snack and beverage items, as well as manned the many different activities necessary for the event to happen, even retired and extended family members of Durand faculty and staff could be seen lending a hand. Special thanks go out to the Fiocchi Family for their donation of pumpkins and a tractor for the hayride and Mrs. Rusnak for her donation of hay. The Haunted Room was a real scare thanks to Vineland Fire Volunteer Fighters, including former Dolphins Zach Ellison, Joey, and Anthony Montana. Each year, Durand students look forward to this event, and each year, it gets bigger and better. Most importantly, this event is a great way for students and families to spend a Friday evening together and see just how wonderful Durand School is. In the spring Durand faculty and staff will be at it again, this time hosting their annual Spring Fling!

Congratulations to the Vineland High School Marching Band for their outstanding performance at the NJMBDA Competition this past Saturday at Kingsway High School! Their hard work and dedication paid off with a well-deserved 2nd place finish and a score of 81.7, nearly 10 points higher than their previous competition. Your improvement and dedication are truly inspiring, and we are incredibly proud of all that you've accomplished!
First-grade scientists in Mrs. Myerson and Mrs. Hadley's classes at Mennies Elementary School have been learning all about animals and their amazing body parts. The children conducted a hands-on Mystery Science investigation, which focused on the function of a bird's beak. Students used straws and cups to make replicas of different beaks, which they used to pick up "food." The experiment sparked lots of lively discussion among our student scientists as they identified the relationship between the shape of the beak and the food each bird eats.
Students in Mrs. Martino and Mrs. Andreoli's first-grade class at Sabater Elementary School explored place value with McDonald's themed base ten blocks. The students completed orders and placed them in Happy Meal boxes. For example, for order 28, the children used two long tens blocks and eight small ones cubes to represent the number of tens and ones. The long base ten blocks were the "french fries," and the small ones cubes were the "chicken nuggets" for the order. We all had so much fun. Order up!

The Vineland Police Department and Vineland Public Schools joined forces on October 22 to host the 9th annual family fun night, held at Vineland High School. Hundreds of happy families decked out in Halloween costumes came out to enjoy the comfortable fall evening, where they were able to enjoy free food from Sodexo Food Service, hayrides, fun activities, and the main event - trunk or treat. Cars and service vehicles from city and county organizations and local businesses were decorated and on display as Halloween music filled the air and eager children raced to see how many treats they could collect that night. The event is always a highlight for the city and we look forward to next year!
More photos are available on our Facebook page.
VPS Broadcasting was also at the event and a short news piece is available on our YouTube page here: https://youtu.be/Ia9pVtC8bUM?si=KIhZ8r7HfuAgMtGa
Tiny Tots Preschool received a special visit from the Vineland Fire Department. Our Tiny Tots learned the importance of the Stop, Drop, and Roll technique! Along with that, our students were also able to tour the Fire Truck and learn about the various tools our Vineland Fire Fighters use on a daily basis.
Thank you to the Vineland Fire Department!
Petway students in Mrs. Nonnemacher’s and Miss McGrail’s classes joined forces for the Dancing Ghost science experiment. They mixed baking soda and vinegar, which sparked a fizzy volcanic eruption. The highlight was hoping to watch lima beans dance up and down, resembling moving ghosts!

On Monday, Mrs. Trionfo and Mr. Cervi’s students were treated to a special surprise visit from Mrs. DeTetta, who came to spread awareness about dwarfism. During her visit, Mrs. DeTetta shared the most beautiful pictures of her daughter, Valentina, and read a heartfelt story that captivated the students.
In addition to the inspiring lesson, Mrs. DeTetta brought in some delicious green snacks, making the experience both educational and fun for everyone. The visit was extra special because next year, Valentina will be joining our school as a proud Rossi Owl. The students in A-15 are already looking forward to welcoming her to our school family!
Some of the 8th Grade Students at Thomas Wallace Middle School volunteered on Saturday, October 12th, to help with a Car Wash Fundraiser. The students worked hard and were able to raise money that will help with 8th Grade Events throughout the year. We thank the community and staff at Wallace for their support!
We're hiring!
