Mr. Marino's 8th grade accelerated students were tasked with creating a mock trial on whether or not Napoleon Bonaparte was guilty of crimes against humanity. This activity is connected to the Age of Revolutions Unit. Students chose the role of judge, clerk/sheriff, jury, prosecution lawyer, defense lawyer, or witness. Witness statements, opening and closing statements by the lawyers, direct and cross examination questions and answers, court procedures, the script, and all other aspects of the trial were created by students. By the end of the trial, students obtained a strong understanding of Napoleon Bonaparte's impact on Europe, the French Revolution, and the procedures, roles, rules, etc. of a modern court case.

Ms. Super's 6th and 7th grade students have been analyzing different types of text and how the texts are structured differently. Today, the students focused on reading texts about Valentine's Day. Each group chose a different article with a different text structure from cause and effect to compare and contrast to chronological order etc. After reading their article, the groups discussed the text structure and examples and came up with creative examples of their own to match the text structure and presented them to their classmates.
