Kindergarten students at Mennies Elementary School have officially started small group instruction, and they are thriving! While some students work independently in groups with hands-on reading and math materials, the classroom teacher and aide are pulling groups to focus on key skills such as letters, sounds, and rhyming. The students are fully engaged and loving the opportunity to dive into the curriculum! It’s exciting to see them embrace learning in such an interactive way.
Kindergarteners in Miss Perry's Room 30 Celebrate Johnny Appleseed! 🍏🍎
Today, our little learners in Room 30 at Winslow Elementary School explored the world of Johnny Appleseed in creative and exciting ways! Their favorite part? Apple stamping! Our students showed such responsibility and teamwork while sharing and waiting for their turn to stamp their apples with the paint color of their choice. After the paint dried, they added seeds, stems, and leaves to their apples, making each one unique.
But that wasn’t all! They also dove into the life cycle of an apple, learned all about Johnny Appleseed’s incredible life, and discovered the importance of giving back to others, just like Johnny did. To top it off, students enjoyed taste-testing different types of apples, voting on their favorite, and enjoying some fun stories about the man himself, Johnny Appleseed. What a day filled with learning, laughter, and apples!
Students at both Dallago locations had a chance to enjoy Drum2BFit as their first school assembly for the 2024-2025 school year!
Students not only enjoyed drumming, singing, and dancing to music but also worked on gross motor skills and keeping a beat at the same time!
This is an assembly that receives great reviews from students AND teachers!
The smiling faces show that this is an assembly that we will keep bringing back.
This week at Winslow, students were able to enjoy lunch with their grandparents to celebrate Grandparent's Day! Our lunch rooms were filled with smiling faces and happy hearts. Students even enjoyed shopping at our book fair with their families.
At Mennies Elementary School, Mrs. Ludlam and Mrs. Uebelacker's 5th grade ELA classes are working on Wonder Graffiti posters. Each poster contains a quote related to the novel that the students will be starting to read. The students had to create graffiti art related to the quote and how it made them feel. Many students also decorated their posters with art related to their quotes! It was a creative way for students to connect to their upcoming novel.

Vineland Public Schools launched its first Community Partnership Action Committee (CPAC) meeting of the school year on Tuesday, continuing a tradition of collaboration now in its fourth year. Superintendent Alfonso Llano began this initiative to build strong connections between local schools and organizations that benefit students and families. Nearly 70 organization members and school leaders attended the meeting, which this year focuses on family engagement.
Following lunch by Sodexo, the district’s food service provider, the meeting began with a warm welcome from Llano. Next, Suzette DeMarchi, Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, gave a presentation on Title I initiatives. Ismael Bermudez, Executive Director of Special Projects and Operations, described some ways the community organizations can get directly involved with the schools and some of the partnerships the district hopes to foster.
Deana Ridolfo, Supervisor of School Counseling, Assessments, McKinney Vento, and School Transitions, highlighted the Cumberland County Resource Guide and encouraged community organizations to contribute resources. This comprehensive guide connects families with valuable local services.
Gia Messore, the district's Public Information Officer, shared upcoming events and shared information on how to promote the participant’s organizations throughout the district.
Pyetra Camargo, Policy and Advocacy Advisor for First Lady Tammy Murphy, announced the Family Festival, part of New Jersey's Nurture NJ initiative. The festival focuses on maternal and infant health issues and offers essential services alongside fun activities.
Wrapping up the meeting, Bermudez thanked everyone for their contributions to the soup kitchen. The next meeting will be held on November 12.
Dane Barse students had a wonderful visit from the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia. They enjoyed a lively production called Polkadots, which is centered around the theme of shapes learning to appreciate each other’s unique qualities. In this vibrant musical, various shapes—circles, squares, triangles, and more—discover how their differences can blend together to create something truly beautiful. Through catchy songs and colorful choreography, the shapes learn to celebrate their individuality.
The show was a wonderful way to teach students about many of our Portrait of a Graduate competencies.
Barse Bears understand that people are unique in many ways, including their backgrounds, talents, interests, cultures, and perspectives. These differences enrich our communities and make each person special.
Polkadots inspired Barse's students and staff alike to embrace diversity and celebrate what makes each individual unique!
Attention VHS students and families! We hope you can join us tomorrow in the VHS Asselta (South) Auditorium at 6 pm for Parent University. See the flyers for more details.
Come out and support VHS soccer next Monday at Texas Roadhouse!
Mrs. Bond and Mrs. Sterchele’s fourth-grade social studies classes at Petway Elementary School had an opportunity to explore artifacts. Students communicated with their peers in groups as social scientists to closely examine artifacts ranging from globes, hand-carved statues, pottery, maps, arrowheads, coins, and other historical items. Students were tasked with constructing questions based on the four social sciences: history, geography, civics, and economics. This engaging lesson inspired the students to think creatively and critically.
Mrs. Gancarz and Mrs. Nees' fourth-grade class at Mennies Elementary School is hard at work during math centers, where students practice responsibility and teamwork as they collaborate on math activities.
On Friday, September 20th, the VHS South art classes (Mrs. Friedley, Mrs. Parent, Mrs. Carberry, and Mrs. Medio) celebrated World Peace Day by participating in an international project called Pinwheels for Peace. Schools and organizations create pinwheels with words and images that represent peace. The students also created chalk art with peaceful messages and images. This project collaboration allowed students an opportunity to show what peace means to them and to participate in a global movement.
Students in Mrs. Fiocchi's 4th grade class at Durand Elementary School have been busy learning about character. Students picked a character trait to describe themselves and cited proof of how they are that trait. This project was a reminder that her students are all a part of her classroom family and each has unique traits.
Students also listened to the story “The Best Part of Me” about fourth-grade students who picked the part/feature about them they liked best. They chose their own best part and wrote a paragraph describing the part, explaining why it is their favorite part, who it reminded them of (where they got it from, for example, mom or dad), and lastly, how this feature can be helpful to others. Mrs. Fiocchi loves photography and truly enjoyed taking pictures of her students and turning them into art!
Students in Ms. Greenfield's Jaguar Period at Johnstone School participated in several Team Building activities that were engaging and fun for all while strengthening communication skills and fostering collaboration and teamwork! On Wednesday, students tackled the Lost At Sea challenge which had groups of students come together to rate 15 items that could be most helpful in an emergency. Students then viewed what experts rated these items to see how close or far they were in their ratings. Thursday, groups of students were given ten pipe cleaners to create the tallest free-standing structure within a certain time. The tallest structure built by a group was 17 cm tall. To finish the week, students chose one group member to assemble a 24-piece puzzle. The challenge in the task was that this student was blindfolded and had to listen to directions given to them by their group members to complete the puzzle. No other members could touch the puzzle pieces as well. The discussions that occurred during these activities were fantastic!

Students in Mrs. Smalley's class at D'Ippolito Elementary School had to "Save Fred." The purpose of the activity was to aid students in learning how to speak and listen to each other, what teamwork is, and how to be equal participants, write predictions, reflect on the outcome, and accept that things may not always work the first time.
